Andrew Cuomo joins board of crypto exchange OKX

Crypto exchange OKX has announced that former New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has joined its Board of Directors.

The company said that this appointment brings decades of public sector and regulatory leadership to its board, as OKX looks to deepen its presence in the U.S. market. Andrew Cuomo served as New York’s 56th Governor (2011-2021), as New York State Attorney General, and as U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. He began working with OKX in 2023, advising on regulatory and institutional strategy in the U.S.

Star Xu, Founder and CEO of OKX said,“Governor Cuomo has been a thoughtful voice for OKX for years, and his move to the board formalizes a relationship that has already shaped how we approach the U.S. market. As we build OKX into the infrastructure layer for both traditional and digital finance, we need people who understand how governments, institutions and markets actually think. That’s exactly what he brings.”

This appointment lands during a period of rapid expansion for OKX, as it builds toward becoming a broader financial infrastructure provider. In June OKX announced a joint venture with Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE:ICE), bridging traditional and digital asset markets, with Cuomo as co-chair. The venture pairs ICE’s exchange and data infrastructure with OKX’s onchain and self-custody rails, giving institutional investors new access to tokenized products. That followed a strategic investment from ICE in March that valued OKX at $25 billion.

Most recently, the company launched OKX AI, a marketplace where autonomous AI agents can discover work, collaborate, transact, and build reputation onchain. It gives developers the infrastructure to build and monetize AI-native businesses.

All of this builds on a foundation OKX has spent years establishing: a global licensing footprint spanning the U.S., UAE, EEA, Singapore, and Australia, paired with monthly Proof of Reserves reporting. Governor Cuomo’s addition to the board reflects that same trajectory: deep regulatory experience joining a company increasingly operating at the center of traditional and digital finance.
