The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) is inviting feedback from stakeholders on proposed changes to its Rules, that will enable it to consider scam-related complaints under the Scams Prevention Framework (SPF).
In June, the Australian Government authorised AFCA as the single external dispute resolution (EDR) scheme for scam complaints under the SPF from 31 March 2027.
This is a significant expansion of AFCA’s role, and AFCA must amend its Rules to establish a new jurisdiction for SPF complaints that reflect the requirements of the new legislative framework.
The consultation will run for four weeks from 31 August 2026 to 28 September 2026.
AFCA values the insights of all stakeholders and encourages parties to review the consultation package and submit their feedback by the closing date. Once the consultation period has closed, AFCA will consider and respond to feedback.
